In short, the price of your book depends on the book size, number of pages, front cover design and binding style. There are no additional charges for B/W photographs in your book. For a quick preview of your costs. At the time you configure your actual order, you will be given a cost based on the options you select. To get a rough idea, to produce 200 copies of a 200 page book 5 ½ x 8 ½ inches your cost would be approximately $4.92 per book or less. This price includes a single color cover with a photograph, and perfect bound. Tennessee residents will have sales tax added to their final billing. The 5.5x8.5 & 6x9 book sizes are the most cost effective sizes we offer.

Submission Information:

Step 1
Prepare your book for disk-based submission.

• Have you reviewed your manuscript and it is in the correct format?*.
• Have you prepared your photos and illustration files and they now meet the graphics formatting guidelines?

*If you submit a manuscript that has been incorrectly formatted, it could delay the production process of your book for up to two months. Be sure to read guidelines and instructions thoroughly before submitting. Please call if you have any questions.

Step 2
Write the following summaries using your word processing program (i.e. Microsoft Word, WordPad):

• Author's Cover Bio. A one-paragraph description (100 words max) of yourself that will appear on the back cover of your book.
• Author Biography. A longer description (2,000 words max) of yourself or a message to your readers. It will be placed on the Revolutionary Disciples Media Web site.
• Dedication (100 words max). Will appear at the beginning of your book.
• Book Summary. A one-paragraph description (100 words max) of your book that appears on the back cover of your book.
• Book Description. A longer description of your book (2,000 words max) that describes the overall content of your book. This will appear on your book's page on the Revolutionary Disciples Media Web site.

Save all summaries as a single file, separate from your main book file but on the same disk.

Step 3
Once you have completed your manuscript, images and summaries, please save everything in either a PC-formatted 3.5-inch floppy, 100MB zip disk or CD-ROM. If your book or images are too large to fit on a single disk, split the file into two parts and send two disks, clearly labeled with your name, telephone number and the title of your book.

Step 4
Read and sign the Author Agreement and then continue on to the downloadable Order Form or the Electronic Shopping Cart.

Step 5
Please pack your forms and disk(s) inside a protective wrapping or a disk mailer to ensure that they will arrive in usable condition. Never send the only copy of your book. Make sure you have all the materials needed. Please review our Submission Checklist or download the file here.

Manuscript Formatting

• We need your manuscript as a single word processing document either created with Microsoft Word (.doc) or saved as a Rich Text Format (.rtf) file.

Microsoft Word (.doc) or saved as a Rich Text Format (.rtf) file. If your manuscript is not in electronic file format but is available as a hard copy, Revolutionary Disciples Media can type your book into the computer for you. The Data Entry Service is available for $2.50 per page

• Your book needs to be between 10,000 and 300,000 words. Please speak to an Revolutionary Disciples Media consultant to discuss manuscripts that are shorter or longer than this.

• We prefer:
  • Times New Roman or Garamond typeface
  • Use the ENTER key to advance to the next line or start a new paragraph (avoid using the SPACEBAR)
  • Ctrl + Enter keys to begin a chapter at the top of the next page
  • Paragraphs indented with a single 0.5" tab (not the space bar)
  • Triangular pointers to indent the first line of the paragraph
  • Auto-formatted footnotes, headers/footers or page numbering

Interior Formatting

• Revolutionary Disciples Media may need to evaluate your manuscript and recommend the service level required to execute your manuscript

• Manuscripts that require extensive text formatting can usually be published with the Silver and Gold packages, depending upon the type and extent of the formatting involved. Extensive formatting includes:
  • use of sub headers
  • screenplay format
  • end notes
  • repeated indented quotations

• Plays, screenplays, and cookbooks cannot be published in Bronze package, but may be published in Silver or Gold packages, at Revolutionary Disciples Media' discretion.

• We cannot publish any manuscript that requires special, highly page-specific formatting such as columns, text boxes, or sidebars. Examples of these types of books include encyclopedias, dictionaries, some how-to books, workbooks, etc.

Graphics Formatting

• All graphics or images should have a resolution of at least 300 dpi file format for best reproduction. This includes photos, charts, diagrams, drawings and anything else that is not text.

• Images are saved as TIFF (.tif) or JPEG files, in CMYK color mode and at actual size

• You may submit hard copy photographs and original images (except slides or sketches). Revolutionary Disciples Media can scan up to a size of 12” x 11”.

• **Interior graphics are produced in black and white (or grayscale) unless you are producing a picture book.  Black ink line art and black and white images either within the text or as a cover will be printed for no additional charge. Our process has a maximum resolution of 600 dots-per-inch (DPI), which produces acceptable quality for most line art and photographs.

• There are no embedded (pasted) images in your manuscript. Save all image files as separate files (e.g. Image1.tif, Image2.jpg, etc.).

• The number of allotted interior images and/or tables varies depending on your publishing package. If you need to add additional graphics to your book, there is a fee of $10.00 per image or $20.00 per table.

• The number of interior graphics is limited to 20. Applies only to Gold packages. Silver packages are limited to 10.

• The number of tables or charts in the manuscript is limited to 10. If you need to add graphics to your book, there is a fee of $10.00 per image and $20.00 for 1-10 tables. Not applicable to Bronze.

• You may submit the following images:
  • Cover Images – to be placed on the front cover of the book. Applicable to Silver and Gold packages.

  • Cover Design – photo or illustration file for your book cover. Not applicable for Bronze
  • Author Image – to be placed in the back cover of the book. This is optional.
  • Interior Images – to be included in the manuscript.

Things to avoid when formatting:

• Columns in your text. Revolutionary Disciples Media offers a professional and standard book layout. If you insert columns in your work, you risk corrupting the layout of your book's text

• Underlined text. Where possible, replace underlined text with italicized text.

• Footnotes. If you need to cite your work, use in-text citations or endnotes (at the end of chapters or at the end of the entire text).

• Pictures inserted into your manuscript file.

• Wingdings, symbolic bullets or characters unavailable within the normal character set (this includes symbols of any kind). If you want to bullet any part of your text, do so with standard bullets.

• Traditional manuscript format (i.e., your name and the page number on every page).

• Manuscripts that are written in foreign languages or those that contain hate speech, pornography or material that infringes upon another's legal rights.
